16 Channel Multiplexer

Added to your shopping cart

Texas Instruments CD74HC4067 16-Channel multiplexer. What can you do with it? How about taking an analog to digital reading from 16 devices with only 1 ADC channel and 4 control pins. That's right, 16 for the price of 5! 24-Pin SSOP package. Works great with our 28-Pin SSOP to DIP adapters.

16 Channel Multiplexer Product Help and Resources

Core Skill: Soldering

This skill defines how difficult the soldering is on a particular product. It might be a couple simple solder joints, or require special reflow tools.

3 Soldering

Skill Level: Competent - You will encounter surface mount components and basic SMD soldering techniques are required.

Core Skill: Programming

If a board needs code or communicates somehow, you're going to need to know how to program or interface with it. The programming skill is all about communication and code.

2 Programming

Skill Level: Rookie - You will need a better fundamental understand of what code is, and how it works. You will be using beginner-level software and development tools like Arduino. You will be dealing directly with code, but numerous examples and libraries are available. Sensors or shields will communicate with serial or TTL.

Core Skill: Electrical Prototyping

If it requires power, you need to know how much, what all the pins do, and how to hook it up. You may need to reference datasheets, schematics, and know the ins and outs of electronics.

3 Electrical Prototyping

Skill Level: Competent - You will be required to reference a datasheet or schematic to know how to use a component. Your knowledge of a datasheet will only require basic features like power requirements, pinouts, or communications type. Also, you may need a power supply that?s greater than 12V or more than 1A worth of current.

Love this part but have recently had a slight project setback. I was hoping to use this for charlieplexing, as 2 of them would yield control over 240 leds without alot of fancy grid work, but sadly (and not in the datasheet!) each of the 16 lines has a 680ohm pullup resistor on it. Ah well, back to the drawing board :D

    Oooo, that looks absolutely delicious.
But... The datasheet seems inconsistent. It shows some other forms of this chip, but doesn't have this one. It has a similar 28-pin package, but this is 24-pin. Are they similar enough to assume that the pinouts are identical? ( minus four pins? )

  • Hi,

I need to read/write 16 I2C devices which have the same I2C address (0x68) using only one I2C port in my uC. Is possible to this with this product?

    Thank you,

Damn... bought some of these and didn't notice (until they arrived) that they were not the 28-pin devices in the datasheet but actually a 24-pin package that isn't mentioned in the datasheet. A few hours of Eagle time down the gurgler :-( I must pay more attention in future.

It comes in a DIP package from TI part number CD74HC4067EE. I understand Sparkfun wishes to push there own products (i.e., SSOP to DIP Adapters) which is great! However I wish Sparkfun would sale this chip it in a DIP package, since it is offered in a DIP package from the manufacture.
    Thanks SF.

I'm not sure, but can the PCD8544 LCD Library be used in tandem with this? I'm trying to run 4 LCDs at once, so I need more outputs.
These are the LCDs I'm trying to use: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10168

There wouldn't happen to be an eagle part for this, would there?

It's under the device name MUX-74HC4067 in the Sparkfun Library.
