It's not what project you have in mind that may use a rocket launch switch... The question is what project will you come up with once you have one in hand? Everyone has a proverbial missile to launch.
The hot red safety cover protects a toggle switch from accidentally being turned on. When flipped up, the user has full access to a switch underneath. Upon closing the cover, the cover will force the switch arm back into the lower position - a safety mechanism so you can quickly hit the cover down and deactivate the switch.
**Note: **This is the cover for the switch only. A compatible toggle switch is listed below.

As someone mentioned in passing, this is commonly called a Molly-Guard.
Can anyone tell me the technical name of that spring mechanism that snaps the cover up and down? like double snap spring or... something?
Could I use this to mod my keyboard? This would be awesome over the Delete key.
Or.. Caps Lock!
Activation of the Caps Lock key on my computer fires a missile that does a 180 and homes in on the user.

anyone know if the metal momentary push buttons fit in these? i wanna use it for a start button for my car. Thought it'd be cool to go all Aventador/ GTR style with the switch cover.
Can I use this red guarded switch cover at the same time I use the waterproof switch cover (COM-11146)?
This feels pretty heavy duty and the spring snaps the cover back in place with tight.
I'm building my own "Oh Fudge" and this is definetly going inside!
Can I use this with the toggle to set the switch to the ON position when the cover is down, or is this keyed to prevent that?
These are keyed to prevent that, but you can get an ON/ON standard toggle switch from anywhere (radio shack, auto parts store and etc.) and wire it as ON/OFF.
I can see this be the arming switch for my homemade rockets...with the big red arcade button as the fire button!
What about the clear/colored versions and some LED toggles to go with them?
Ratshack is scalping those for nearly 20 bucks a pop, but I can find them all over for way less.
Would rather order them from sparkfun TBH.
It doesn't really work with the momentary switch listed below as a related product. It activates the switch when closed.
Since it's double throw, I guess that could be a feature.

Yes...what is the diameter of the hole? It would be nice to know so other switches could be used with the cap.
couldn't find my calipers :/ but with a tape it looks pretty darn close to 7/16" AWESOME switches too!
What's the diameter of that hole? I need a molly-guard like this but for a small momentary pushbutton.
Works great. Much better built that I expected. Built in spring really snaps down the cover every time. Can easily print out labels with a label maker to stick on the face. Wish they had more color options.
My FIRST robotics team uses these for safety/enable switches, pneumatics and any quick actuators. They are great fun, especially with pneumatics. 60 psi can still make a satisfy noise if you apply it right.
